Personal stories from the people of First Euless

Who is God?

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. God created the Earth in six days. He is Holy and without error. God has always been and always will be in existence. God is all powerful and all knowing; and His perfect knowledge extends to all things, past, present, and future, including the future decisions of His free creatures. God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being. (Read Genesis 1:1; 2:7; Exodus 3:14; 6:2-3; Colossians 1:15; Hebrews 11:6)

Who is Jesus?

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is coequal with God the Father. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days and has power over sin and death. He ascended into Heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where He is the One Mediator (or advocate), fully God, fully man, in whose Person is effected the reconciliation between God and man. (Read Matthew 1:22,23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5)

Why should I trust the Bible?

The Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, and is without error. All Scripture is true and trustworthy. It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world. It is the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should follow. It is our guide for living. Our first question when faced with a decision should be, “What does the Bible say?” Everything we need to live our lives can be found in the Bible! (Read Exodus 24:4; Matthew 5:17-18; Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; Hebrews 1;1-2).

Is Jesus More than a Man?

Yes. Jesus is fully God and fully man. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. Jesus perfectly revealed and did the will of God, taking upon Himself human nature with its demands and necessities and identifying Himself completely with mankind yet without sin. Because of this, while on Earth, Jesus felt pain and emotions as we do. He was tempted to sin, but did not. He understands our feelings and the demands of living a life on Earth. Jesus can and does relate to mankind. He lived on the Earth for 33 years before His death, burial, and resurrection. Jesus died on a cross because He willingly laid his life down for every man and woman. Jesus loves you and that is why He died for your sins. He desires that all men and women place their faith in Him and trust in Him alone in order to spend eternity in Heaven with God. (Read John 3:16; I Timothy 2:5-6; Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 3:23-26).

What is sin?

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s love. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”. This attitude and actions separate people from a perfect and Holy God and causes many problems in life.

Why is the cross of Jesus Christ so important to me?

In the beginning of the Earth, God created mankind in the form of Adam and Eve. Man was innocent of sin and was endowed by God with the freedom of choice. By his free choice man sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. Through the temptation of Satan man transgressed the command of God, and fell from his original innocence whereby his essence (or being) inherited a nature and an environment inclined toward sin. Therefore, as soon as a person is capable of moral action, they become sinners and are under condemnation. Only the grace of God can bring a man or woman into fellowship with Him. Because of that grace and love for mankind, God made a way for mankind to have a relationship with Him. That way was through the sacrifice of His son, Jesus Christ, on a cross. Jesus was the payment or penalty for mankind’s sin. This is what is called “salvation”. Through Jesus Christ’s actions on the cross, mankind can be “saved” from eternal damnation in Hell apart from God and Heaven. (Read Genesis 3:15; Exodus 3:14-17; John 3:3-21; John 3:36; John 15:1-16; Romans Ephesians 2:8-22).

How can I know for sure that if I died, I will go to Heaven?

Salvation is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. All you have to do is repent of your sins and place your faith and trust in Jesus Christ. Repentance is a genuine turning from sin toward God. Faith is the acceptance of Jesus Christ and commitment to Him as the Lord of your life. Salvation through Jesus Christ brings about a “new you”, or re-birth. It is not a physical re-birth, but a spiritual re-birth, or regeneration. This re-birth is the work of God’s grace whereby those who believe in Jesus become new creatures. It is a change of heart. The Bible teaches us that once we place our faith and trust in Jesus Christ, we are adopted into God’s family. In essence, we become a child of God. That relationship can never be broken, and God promises us that we will always be in His family if we choose to have faith in Christ. The true believer in Jesus Christ is secure in that salvation is for eternity. Your place in Heaven is sealed. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security. (Read Romans 8:38; John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; I Peter 1:3-5; Romans 10:9-10; Romans 5:8-10)
