I was dating this guy, and there was something different about him. You see I always dated young professionals who drove fancy cars and got the best tables at the best restaurants. I was looking for something different, but didn't really know what I was looking for. My new guy had no money because he was a medical student, and he lived in a little farmhouse to watch over the cattle for a sweet widow. School was sometimes difficult for him, but he had a sureness, a peace, and a certainty that I didn't. When we talked on the phone, he talked alot about Jesus. He would ask me what I thought about all that stuff, and honestly, I just didn't think about it. When he came to town, he would insist on taking me to church. When he was away at school, he would call on Sunday and ask me, "Did you go to church today?" My answer was always the same. "No, my friends and I stayed out late partying, and no we didn't go to church." Then he would tell me EVERYTHING he had heard in church, and sometimes it made me a little mad, and I didn't know why I kept dating him. But I liked him anyway and admired his persistence even if I didn't understand all the church stuff. He had such an urgency about this me and Jesus thing, and He wouldn't give up.

Once when I visited him, he took me to his church, and the Pastor read from his Bible, Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." For some reason, that day, I decided that "all" included me. I repented of my sins and accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I believed in my heart that He died on the cross for me and my sins, and that God raised Him from the dead. I was baptized a few months later, but didn't tell my family because I had been sprinkled as a baby. I didn't want to disrespect them, but I was an adult, and it was my decision in obedience to the Word of God.

Back in fifth grade, I had memorized the necessary creeds in a class to join my mom's church, but had never known I could have a personal relationship with Jesus until I began dating this medical student. It was the greatest love story I had ever heard, and I married the guy who led me to a relationship with Christ.
