Rian Slay

I grew up in a Christian home and accepted Christ at a very young age. I did not completely understand everything that inviting Christ into my life meant, but I knew that Jesus loved me and that I loved Him. When I was 8 my father baptized me at the church we went to in Houston Tx. As I hit Jr. High school, I began to realize that following Christ was more then just going to church and doing the right thing. My youth pastor challenged me to make sure my faith was my own and not just my parents. This is the point in my life where I began to take ownership of my faith. In High School I was fortunate enough to have people pour into me. Sitting around our makeshift campfire one night on a mission trip in Mexico, my youth pastor said he felt there were some students there who were called to ministry and if we felt that was us we should come talk to him later. When I approached him, the first thing he said was “I knew you would be here”. That confirmation was huge to me.

During this time I was developing a love for theatre and storytelling. I was not sure where my passion for the stage and my passion for ministry intersected, but I knew they would somehow. I studied theatre in college and went on to grad school. Grad school was my first time in a secular theatre setting, and was one of the most trying times for my faith. I was learning how to not only love those who thought I was crazy for my faith, but also how to let them love me as well. I grew more in my faith during those two years then any other time in my life.

Today, God has brought me to a place where my passion for ministry and my passion for the stage are combined into a job that I love. I produce the services at First Euless each week, telling a story each Sunday on stage. I get to use the talents that God has given me, and the training I got in school, and combine them to hopefully create a service each week that will touch people’s lives. The best part hearing the stories about how God is using some of the crazy ideas I have come up to impact people for His kingdom. There is no better feeling then knowing that I am being used by Him.
